My name is Andrii Cherkashyn, and I am Ukraine’s U17 National Champion just last week, I became the Cadet European bronze medalist. With my recent successes, I have just started to prove how dedicated I am to my sport. However, I know that I have only just started to unlock my potential and with the right support, I can be one of the best in the world.
When the war started exactly a year ago, I had to leave Kyiv, my hometown. I found refuge in Israel for a few months where I, along with many Ukrainian fencers were welcomed with open arms by many kind-hearted and generous families. After a few months, our time in Israel was up and with luck on my side, I found a coach in London who was willing to take me in and a club that I have come to love. London became my new home. I have also found a wonderfully supportive school, and new friends and I am juggling being an A-Level student studying Maths, Further Maths, and Economics while also being an elite athlete.
Being a refugee, and adjusting to a new country and a new life whilst being an international athlete presents great challenges. It requires an enormous amount of funding in order to support a rigorous training regime and travel expenses to attend international tournaments. Because of this, I have decided to crowdfund to help me achieve my dreams of becoming one of the best fencers in the world.
Unfortunately, the Ukrainian Fencing Federation is unable to provide the funding I require, making it difficult for me to continue to compete at the highest level. I'm currently seeking to raise £5000 to cover some of the costs of training, travel, and equipment. I hope that you will consider supporting me in this endeavor.
For me, fencing is more than just a sport. It is a way to strengthen our minds and bodies and connect with people and cultures from around the world. By supporting my campaign, you're not just helping me achieve my dreams, but also promoting strong mental
health, cross-cultural exchange, and understanding.
I'm incredibly grateful for any support you can offer, no matter how small. Every penny counts, and with your help, I can continue to improve my skills, help promote the sport I love and make my country proud.
Thank you for your time and please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or just want to say hello.
Sincerely,
Andrii
