Aim of our project is to feed and support the needy in our community by distributing food, cooking projects and making meals for families
Our Vision is to feed the needy and support the most vulnerable offering cost of living support. Plus, we will seek to build the local area of Buckskin into a thriving community.
Buckskin Evangelical Church was established in the Buckskin community over 50 years ago. We are a church in the community for the community. In that time we have demonstrated God's love through word and action. We currently run weekly activities for all age groups parents and toddlers, children, youth and adults. The church community is over 200 people with a large number of them who choose to volunteer.
We work closely with the local primary school and visit the school weekly to take assemblies. In addition, we have 5 volunteers who are involved in coaching children for one hour a week for a whole year. The church has also run two Cook and Eat projects. These are four week cooking courses working with 8 parents and their children to produce meals for their whole families. The course includes information on nutrition and healthy meal choices and is free for everyone who attends. It is estimated that over the four weeks we provide around 120 hot meals for local families.
The church wants to extend its support to families in the community and to do this we aim to deliver two projects:
Community Food Link Hub - the church is setting up as a hub for the distribution of excess supermarket food. This will be provided by Community Food Link (see www.bcfd.org.uk) The food will be received by the church and then working with the Family Liaison Officer at the nearby primary school will be given for free to the most needy families in the local community.
Make Lunch - the goal will be for the church to cook and provide lunch to local families during the school holidays. Families would be identified and then invited to the church building where they will be given a hot nutritious meal. As well as the meal there would be additional activities for children and adults.
