Help us transform our new Werneth space into a safe taekwondo gym with flooring, toilets, changing rooms and equipment for our growing club

Who are we?

We are Apex Taekwondo, a growing community club helping children and young people build confidence, discipline and skills through taekwondo.

With over 60 members, our athletes train, compete and strive to reach their full potential. From complete beginners to national and international athletes, we provide opportunities for everyone to develop and progress within the sport.

Our club is committed to making taekwondo accessible to everyone. We support asylum seekers, children in care and families experiencing financial difficulties by offering free or subsidised training where needed.

We believe that no child should miss out on the physical, social and emotional benefits of sport simply because their family cannot afford the fees.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are crowdfunding because our club has grown beyond the capacity of our previous venue, and we have now had to leave. As a result, we currently have nowhere to train.

This comes at a crucial time for our athletes. We have 20 athletes preparing for the National Championships, alongside one athlete preparing to represent Great Britain at the European Cadet Championships.

We have found a larger space with the potential to become a permanent home for Apex Taekwondo. However, it requires significant work before it is suitable for our members. This includes installing safe flooring, toilets, changing facilities and essential training equipment.

We urgently need to transform this space into a safe, fully functioning taekwondo gym, allowing our athletes to return to training and continue pursuing their goals.

Your support will help us give our growing club a permanent home and ensure that our children and young people do not lose the opportunity to train, compete and reach their full potential.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Our club has grown beyond the capacity of our previous premises, and our growth meant the building was no longer able to accommodate us. We have now secured a much larger space that will allow Apex Taekwondo to continue growing and, importantly, enable us to support even more children, young people, adults and families in our community.

However, the new premises requires significant work and investment before we can open.

The money raised will help us transform the space into a safe, welcoming and fully functioning taekwondo training facility. This includes essential flooring and mats, changing facilities, toilets, safety improvements, training equipment and decorating.

Our current estimated costs

• Toilet installation – £1,200
• Underlay – £5,000
• Taekwondo mats – £7,000
• Two changing rooms – £4,000
• Painting and decorating – £2,000
• Training equipment – £1,000
• Safety protection around structural poles – £1,500
• Desk/reception area – £200
• Wet and dry vacuum – £300

Estimated total: £22,200

These are our current estimated costs, and some items are still awaiting final quotations. We will continue to seek the best value for money wherever possible.

If we raise more than our initial target, any additional funds will be used towards other essential building, safety and setup costs needed to make the premises fully operational.

Every contribution, no matter how small, will bring us one step closer to opening our new home.

Community impact

Apex Taekwondo is more than a sports club. We provide a safe, positive and affordable environment where local children and young people can build confidence, discipline, fitness and friendships.

We support children and young people of all abilities, from complete beginners to national and international athletes. For many of our members, taekwondo provides a positive focus, a sense of belonging and the opportunity to challenge themselves and achieve things they may not have believed possible.

We are committed to making our club accessible to the whole community. Where families are experiencing financial difficulties, we provide free or subsidised training so that children are not excluded from sport because of their circumstances.

Our new gym will allow us to welcome more children and families, provide more regular training opportunities and expand what we can offer within our community. It will give our members a safe, dedicated space where they can train, develop their skills, build resilience and reach their potential.

Most importantly, it will give children and young people a place to belong, a reason to believe in themselves and the opportunity to achieve.

But before we can open our doors, the building needs significant work, including flooring, toilets, repairs, safety improvements and essential equipment.
