Aim
We are Far Flung Dance Theatre, a newly formed professional inclusive dance theatre performance & training company based in Plymouth.
Far Flung Dance Theatre has been operating since June 2015; training weekly & making new performance works for specific opportunities. We are a company of 8 dancers and theatre makers, with & without disabilities, all of whom feel passionate about performing as well as developing our teaching skills & artistic practise.
We are looking for help to raise £900.00 or more for two reasons:
Firstly, we would like to use the funds for some much needed research and development for the company. This involves high quality training for all members of the company and time in the studio to develop a new piece of work that will be shared in the local community, raising aspiration of disabled and non disabled people in the city.
To pilot the work we would really like to take members of Far Flung Dance Theatre to Cheltenham’s National Star College to participate and perform at their Dance Festival in March. National Star College specialise in performing arts for 19-24 year olds with learning and physical disabilities. Our aim is to deliver high quality workshops and performances at the college to encourage more disabled young people to consider a career in the performing arts. Although we are based in Plymouth we aspire to have a national presence and affect, which involves travelling far and wide to share our ethos and to strengthen our regional relationships and networks.
Secondly, we wish to raise funds toward Hannahs new wheelchair. The Wheelchair Hannah uses presently is not fit for purpose, it is heavy, difficult to direct and causes burns and blisters to Hannahs hands when she dances. We would love to provide Hannah with a speicialised wheelchair so she feels confident and empowered to shine and be the brilliant dancer that she is.
Far Flung Dance Theatre is privileged to be based in the South West where inclusive practise is more commonplace. However, we feel dedicated to encouraging inclusive practice not just locally but regionally, nationally and we hope in the future, internationally.
We feel it is imperative for us to share, educate and promote the practice of inclusive dance theatre in Plymouth and everywhere we can. The positive affects of an inclusive approach to dance theatre on both the individual and the community is immeasurably powerful.
