Aim
Help keep Moray families feeling good with hot food in warm spaces, fun activities, and connection to their community.
Who are we?
Children 1st is Scotland’s national children’s charity (SC016092), our Moray Hub is a local service that works alongside families in the Moray region of Scotland. The families we work alongside are often marginalised due to poverty, the isolation that comes from living in a rural area, past trauma, additional support needs, or being in a kinship care situation. They may already be struggling to make ends meet and the rising cost of living is making already challenging situations worse, with families having to choose between heating their homes or spending money on food.
What are we doing?
We are running a range of drop-in sessions to support families this winter. These provide care, nurture, and connection in a warm safe space, as well as advice and guidance for families who need it. Our sessions include our weekly Families Together drop-in, a young people’s wellbeing group and a monthly outing specially for dads and their kids. We also offer activities during the school holidays, a time of increased cost and stress for many families.
During these sessions, we offer hot food and snacks. We also have a community larder, where families can informally access essentials in a positive and welcoming environment, free from shame. And our specialist staff offer money advice to maximise income, manage debt, navigate fuel tariffs and application forms.
Our reason for crowdfunding
We are aiming to raise £6000 to help us meet rising food and fuel costs, and to meet families’ transport costs, allowing them to leave the house and connect with their community at our sessions. We would also like to continue making our space more child-friendly and welcoming.
