Falmouth Food Co-op Kitchen is a volunteer run food initiative.
We hold community feasts to tackle social isolation and make healthy, local food accessible to all. Following government guidelines, these monthly social feasts have been postponed.
In response to COVID-19 we had to think of a new way to benefit the community and decided to set up a meal delivery service.
We’re cooking and delivering 7 meals a week to those in self-isolation and in need of food.
From cooking once a month we are now batch cooking meals twice a week. We use the kitchen at our local community centre, the Dracaena Centre. The Dracaena Centre is an incredible hub in Falmouth, housing many community groups and services for which we're very thankful. Each week teams of volunteers cook, pack and prepare meals to deliver. Ingredients are ordered from Falmouth Food Co-op and local suppliers, topped up with rescued surplus veg and food donations.
Falmouth Food Co-op Kitchen has been running this meal delivery service since the beginning of April. On our third week we are delivering to around 70 people and the list is growing daily.
Sign up for food on the website www.falmouthfood.coop or alternatively on the food hotline 01326 567526.
We want everyone to have access to healthy food.
During the current pandemic there are lots of people falling under the radar who need help for basic needs. Now more than ever we believe it is important for communities to pull together, help each other and support those who need it.
The deliveries are intended for anyone in the Falmouth and Penryn area who has limited to no access to food. The meals are free with the option of pay-as-you-can donations.
Food hygiene and safeguarding is being taken very seriously
The money raised will go towards our weekly food budget, food delivery containers and additional kitchen equipment.
We hope to carry on for as long as we are required. Our subscription list is growing and we will soon reach capacity without extra support. Your contribution will really help us to keep this meal delivery service running for everyone in need of it.
Thank you to everyone!
In addition to this direct action, Falmouth Food Co-op Kitchen is campaigning as part of the National Food Service, which demands that people's basic food needs are met during the pandemic and forever after. You can read more about the NFS campaign at www.nationalfoodservice.uk.
