Aim

We aim to improve cricket access and increase renewable energy through a solar panel installation at Falmouth Cricket Club

Who are we?

Falmouth Cricket Club is one of the largest cricket clubs in Cornwall, established in 1910, the club is an entirely volunteer-run community club with CASC status at the centre of a thriving community hub, with a co-located running club (and padel courts coming later this year), 4 mixed league and 2 midweek teams, a women’s team, and a large junior section with 82 current club members, including 15 girls aged 5-16. Its clubhouse is a well-used community facility shared with a choir and Falmouth Running Club.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are raising money for a solar panel installation on the clubhouse, which will enable us to reinvest the savings made in improvements at the club, widen community access to the club, and safeguard our financial future, all whilst creating a new renewable energy facility which will also help the environment.

Like many community spaces we struggle with running costs and the rising cost of energy in particular, cost of living challenges for its members (exacerbated by its situation in a relatively poor part of the country), and retaining its large junior membership into adult cricket.

The solar panels are a win-win - the cricket club with its summer day focused energy profile is ideal for a solar project - we create renewable energy and save money which we can then spend on helping even more people in Falmouth to enjoy getting involved in cricket!

How we’ll spend the money raised

All the money we raise will go towards the project. The club is entirely run by volunteers, from the coaches, committee members, and those that help organise and run the popular social events, demonstrating just what it means to the community.

We're aiming to have the panels installed in time for the 2027 cricket (and summer!) season. We will be working with local companies to do this.

We are also pleased to say that Cornwall Council have agreed to match fund our crowdfunder through their climate and nature programme. For every £1 we raise they will match it with £1. So, if you kindly give us £10 that will turn into £20, this is an amazing opportunity to raise vital funds for our club, a big thank you to Cornwall Council for supporting us.

Community impact

Falmouth Cricket Club is about bringing people together through playing and the love of cricket. It has community spirit at the heart of the club. It is there for all ages and abilities. Often, members begin as young children and continue through to adulthood. Many former players can also be spotted enjoying matches from the benches of a weekend, all of which are free to attend. The club has recently focussed on increasing the women's and girls’ opportunities in the club and now has a softball women's league team featuring several mother and daughter pairings. The benefits of team sports have been shown to increase mental health and resilience in people of all ages.

‘Playing for the Falmouth Firebirds women’s team has been the best experience, I didn’t think I could take up a team sport in my 40’s but I love being part of a team, playing with all different ages and feeling stronger for it!’

Falmouth Cricket Club is a well-used community facility, used by a community choir and Falmouth Running Club as well as all the cricket teams, visitors and supporters; hundreds of people visit the facility each week. It's also right next to Falmouth Secondary School, and there is also going to be padel courts there from later 2026.

We want to offer everyone the chance to be part of the club’s community. Giving the opportunity to play, socialise and feel supported by each other through sport. Creating a sense of belonging for all.
