To provide residential experiences to youngsters with disabilities, supported by Buddies, also giving parents a much needed break
We want to really make a difference to the lives of youngsters with learning disabilities and autism.
By recruiting, training and professionally supporting non disabled youngsters of the same age we can provide a vehicle where activities can be enjoyed and natural friendships can flourish, breaking down barriers and discrimination faced on a daily basis.
They Charity is run by a board of volunteers who listen to the young people and the things they like or don't like to do and steer the Charity accordingly.
We have dedicated team of four staff who organise, facilitate activities and build bonds with the youngsters and their families, enabling a unique trusted support service to be delivered. They also train and guide our amazing 37 volunteers who buddy and mentor the young adults so they can enjoy more natural friendships with people of the same age.
After the massive success of a couple of 'nights away' we would like to expand on this, enabling them to stay in a hotel or apartment overnight, with their friends and enjoy the simple pleasures of getting their hair and make-up done before heading out to see a show or watch a band. This is also a very welcome break to the many parents/carers who don't get any reprieve from their caring role, allowing them to switch off in the knowledge that their son/daughter is safe and having fun too. The money raised will be used to fund these nights away.
