Help us make "Fading," a film about a mother and wife crushed by the mental load who walks away from a life where she was never truly seen.
Hello, my name is Michael Ariyo, and on behalf of AFMAMedia, I want to introduce you to our short film, Fading.
Fading tells the story of Sarah, a Black British mother in her late 30s who is drowning in the silent, thankless tasks of running a household. She is the master architect of her family's life, but this competence has become her cage, leaving her feeling like a ghost at her own feast. Her husband, Mark, isn't a bad man; he's just oblivious, completely unaware of the crushing weight of the invisible labour Sarah performs daily.
Our story captures the breaking point. After one final, thoughtless request on a chaotic evening, Sarah makes a quiet choice. She doesn't scream or fight; she simply turns, walks out the door, and disappears into the night.
Our Vision
This isn't just a story; it's a reflection of a reality that millions of people, especially women, experience every day. Our vision is to make the invisible visible. We want to create a powerful, empathetic film that serves as a conversation starter about the mental load, burnout, and the loss of identity that can happen within a family dynamic.
The tone is naturalistic and intimate. We will use tight, handheld shots to lock the audience into Sarah's claustrophobic perspective, making you feel the pressure she’s under. The ending is a powerful visual metaphor: as Sarah walks away, the world around her will visually fade, representing her disappearance from a life where she was never truly seen. We aim to create a film that is not loud or angry, but one that lands with a deep, sorrowful release.
How Your Support Will Help
To bring this crucial story to the screen with the quality and care it deserves, we need your help. Every single contribution will go directly into the production and distribution of the film, allowing us to achieve our vision. Here is how we will use the funds we raise:
Pay for Filming (Director of Photography): A talented DOP is essential to capture the film's specific visual language, from the chaotic handheld shots to the final, poignant fade.
Camera Rental: To achieve a cinematic, high-quality look, we need to rent professional-grade camera equipment.
Editor: The editor will weave the story together, expertly managing the film's pacing and tonal shift from quiet chaos to haunting serenity.
Pay Our Talent: We are committed to paying our actors for their craft. Their performances are the heart of this film, and they deserve to be compensated for bringing these complex characters to life.
Festival Entries: Our goal is for Fading to be seen by as wide an audience as possible and to start conversations. Your support will cover submission fees for film festivals across the UK and internationally.
Cinema Screening: We believe in the power of a shared viewing experience. A portion of the funds will be used to host a screening for our cast, crew, and—most importantly—our supporters. You will get to see the film you helped create on the big screen.
