Elections are expensive - we don't have the donors and deep pockets of the Tories. And so I'm attempting to raise £5000 for a campaign fund to help us get our message to voters.
Why Should You Help Me Become Your Next MP?
I have worked as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist for 12 years in the North West, with 20 years' experience as an NHS doctor. I have publicly campaigned on many issues over the years - from protecting the NHS nationally to improving pay and conditions for NHS workers.
The country - and the NHS in particular - is in a sorry state after over a decade of Tory rule. The Conservative candidate, Andrew Stephenson, as Minister for Health has been instrumental in expanding Physician Associates and passing a framework to regulate physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs) using a statutory framework to avoid scrutiny in the House of Commons. This has left doctors up in arms at the threat to quality of services. Simply put this means more patients would be seeing non doctors than ever before.
As reported in The Guardian in February “…a leaked letter written jointly by health minister Andrew Stephenson and the minister for skills, apprenticeships and higher education, Robert Halfon, to the independent regulator the Office for Students, says they will fund only 350 additional places for trainee doctors in 2025-26
Why Do I Think I Can Win?
This is a new constituency, with the Liberal Democrat group holding 13/45 councillors. This is only surpassed by the Conservatives with 16/45 council seats. After a mass walkout of Labour councillors they now hold just one council seat in the constituency.
For voters the decision will be between the Conservative incumbent who has driven forward expanding non doctor roles, while failing to deliver on the promised doubling of medical school training places, and a respected NHS doctor who is standing up for patients to stop the reduction in quality of care for patients. Support your NHS and back Anna for Pendle and Clitheroe, and her campaign to see a doctor.
The seat has a proud Liberal history, with the hugely respected Pendle Councillor the late Lord Tony Greaves serving in the House of Lords since his nomination in 2000 by the then party leader Charles Kennedy, until his death in 2021. Fighting for this seat certainly would honour his memory.
How Much Do We Need?
£8000 : that will provide a flying start for us to take the fight for the heart and soul of Pendle and Clitheroe. We’ll need every penny to rescue this new constituency from the Conservatives getting their hands on it. The Conservatives have the funds. Unlike them we don't take millions in exchange for political favours: we rely on ordinary people like you who want to help create a fairer society.
Where Will The Money Go?
We want to take our campaign to the next level by reaching out to ALL voters in every corner of Pendle and Clitheroe.
- Constituency-wide advertising in local media.
- Production and home delivery of literature to drive our message across the rural constituency.
- Leaflets and literature on national and local issues
Your Help Now Will Make All The Difference
This is a critical time for our country. Over a decade of orchestrated decline in vital public services has led the NHS to near collapse.
But there is also now an opportunity coming for a new start for Pendle and Clitheroe and the nation; help me to contribute to that.
Thank you so much, in anticipation, for anything you can commit.
I will not let you down.
