To deliver BillyChip to new areas of the UK, increasing the amount of outlets and services that can access our safe and secure currency
Who are we, and what is our project about?
BillyChip CIC was set up in 2019 in memory of ambulance driver, Billy Abernethy-Hope, Billy had an idea of how to bridge the gap between rough-sleepers and the general public through a safe and secure currency that removed hesitations many people felt around donating cash directly, through fear of support harmful addictions.
Sadly, Billy lost his life in Thailand whilst travelling and never had the chance to make his idea a reality so, in his memory, BillyChip was set up by his family and friends.
Having launched in Bristol in 2019 with a trial of 9 coffee shops, BillyChip now operates nationwide in over 500 stores, allowing rough-sleepers to redeem chips for items which are a benefit to them.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We are crowdfunding as it shows how many, small donations can result in something massive - since our launch we have constantly been inundated with requests to bring BillyChip to new areas of the UK, however, as a non-profit who donates it's profits to other grassroots causes, we have often lacked the finances to meet our demand.
How we’ll spend the money raised
Your donation will be spent on costs associated with expanding BillyChip to areas of the country that currently have no or a low amount of redemption points, since our launch in 2019, rough-sleepers has grown in the UK by 40% so now is more important than ever to ensure that those faced with street homelessness have access to essential items.
