Aim

To hand out 75,000 EU Flags at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool

Eurovision is the biggest televised musical event happening in the world and this year the UK is hosting it on behalf of Ukraine who won it in 2022. Eurovision is taking place in the Liverpool arena on the 2nd week in May.

ThankEuForTheMusic are purchasing 75,000 flags for this event and our aim is to distribute as many of these flags as possible during Eurovision week which runs from the 9th to the 13th May. Any leftover flags will be put to good use by handing them out at other events including the last night of the proms. Our flags are a message of solidarity with the people of Ukraine who have applied for membership of the EU. Wouldn’t it be fantastic for the UK to rejoin the EU at the same time that Ukraine joins? We are giving a positive and supportive message to all the singers and performers and to the many 1000s who will be attending this musical spectacular.

We are deeply saddened about the impact that Brexit has had on musicians, who many can no longer travel due to brexit. By rejoining the EU we will have music without borders again. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/apr/10/german-punk-band-humiliated-after-being-refused-uk-entry-due-to-post-brexit-rules

We are working in collaboration with local pro EU groups and the National Rejoin March (NRM) who will bring a gigantic banner on Saturday 13th May that will say “Music sounds better with EU” (https://marchforrejoin.co.uk/nrm-eurovision).

Our main focus is going to be Europe Day Tuesday 9th May and also the final on Saturday the 13th May. However we plan to hand out flags at as many events as possible.
