Aim

Our aim is to raise enough funds to compete and represent the University of Sheffield at the European Games this summer

The University of Sheffield’s table tennis club has gone from strength the strength since its creation in 2010, with numerous teams representing the university in the top BUCS’s leagues for both men and women. Over the last few years, our teams won leagues and cups regularly and this year our men’s 1st team have qualified for the European University Games in Coimbra, Portugal, the club’s best achievement to date! As you can imagine, this is an expensive event to enter, with costs exceeding £2000. This is where we need your help, with any donations much appreciated, as we wouldn't want our team to miss out on this amazing once in a lifetime opportunity due to costs! Your donation would help us cover travel, accommodation, entry and kit costs. If you would like any more information, please don’t hesitate to email us at [email protected]

The Team

Kin Fung Chan - I am a hardworking and enthusiastic student at the University of Sheffield. I have a great passion for the sport of table tennis and have therefore undertaken the role of First Team Captain at the University of Sheffield of Table Tennis Club. Prior to university I played for England in the International Home Schools Championships and have carried this same dedication to the university team. I am keen to represent Sheffield and English Universities at the European University Games, as it is a brilliant stage for us to show the work we have put in over the last couple of years.

Tim Denby - I have been dedicated to table tennis since I started playing aged 9, as a junior I represented my county and region and in the last few seasons I have become a regular player in my county senior team. I continued my passion when I joined the University of Sheffield, my greatest achievement for the university was winning 3/4 of my games to win the 2016/17 cup.  I am lucky to be part of such a dedicated team that i can share my passion for table tennis with. I currently do part time work as a coach to try and develop table tennis in the area and am keen to develop this more in the next year.

Luke Tattersall - I first played table tennis at primary school and have been totally hooked and dedicated ever since. I have won various leagues and cups representing Sheffield and South Yorkshire on a number of occasions, I am the oldest member of the team as I am currently undertaking my PhD studies, meaning this is my 7th season playing in BUCS, during this time I have had a number of successes, however, having the potential to represent Sheffield and British Universities in the European University Championships  is by far the greatest of them and is an amazing opportunity for us all.

David Eckl - I have been playing table tennis since the age of 9, competing for my county at cadet and junior level. Since I’ve joined the University of Sheffield table tennis club, my team has had great success, winning numerous league titles and the trophy cup in 2017, resulting in being the university’s best performing club in BUCS and winning team of the year in 2017. So far qualifying for the EUG has been my greatest achievement in sports and it will be an amazing competition to top a great year with one of the most dedicated and passionate teams I’ve been a part of.
