Aim: Eulogy is a short film about the loss of a family member and how it pulls at the threads of family connections.
PREMISE:
A father and daughter try to come to terms with the loss of the mother. Each cannot deal with their grief let alone that of the other. The father tries to write a Eulogy for the funeral but struggles to find the words. He revisits memories of life before, to try and piece together what he wants to say but finds those memories have become tainted with sadness.
STYLE:
This is a mood piece film, where the dialogue is told through voice overs and the rest through imagery. We will move between flashbacks and the present day. The present day will be static black and white shots to create the feeling that death itself has taken over and all colour in the world has been drained. The flashbacks will be shot in colour with fluid camera movements, as if life itself breathes through the screen. The juxtaposition of the camera movements and the use of colour will be used to explore what life feels like before and after a significant loss.
MOOD BOARD:
WHY THIS STORY:
I wrote this after becoming a father. I imagined what it would be like to lose my wife and if I had the strength to go on when she is so much a part of me and my daughter's life. What is it I would want to say to her in a Eulogy and what would I want to say to my daughter. I put all that into this story and feel it resonates with many who have read it.
