This pioneering Education through Expeditions (ETE) project has been designed by experienced adventurers Antony Jinman and Paul Hart. At its heart is the aim to raise the aspirations of young people from Barne Barton and King's Tamerton by combining interactive workshops with outdoor learning and confidence building.
Antony states “Our heart is to help 10-11 year olds to develop the skills and self-esteem to continue with their learning and professional development in the future. We hope to break the negative cycle in poverty stricken areas by continuing this project in future years to give as many children as possible an equal opportunity in their education.”
Working in close partnership with Tamar View and the Barne Barton Youth Club, Riverside Community Primary School and Marine Academy Plymouth (150 young people), we will deliver a series of school workshops and outdoor learning opportunities for all participating students in the UK, which will then lead into an overseas visit to a Sami school in Inari Finland in March 2017 with a selected group. The young people on this trip will become community ambassadors and document their experience online so their classmates and families back home can follow the experience. It is our vision to turn this project into an annual trip, giving an experience to repeat every year.
This project builds on a highly successful trip in collaboration with Plymouth Learning Partnership in 2014 to the same area from which we are continuing to see the impact the expedition made to those young people. Please do see for yourself what the trip meant to the children by watching the following video.

Our project has been designed by Antony Jinman and Paul Hart from Education Through Expeditions (CIC) in partnership with Barne Barton Youth Club, Riverside Community Primary School and Marine Academy Plymouth. We have successfully received funding from The North Yard Community Trust and RBS Skills & Opportunities Fund to work towards making this project a reality.
