We desperately need to raise £5,000 to continue supporting local animals rescued from cruelty, abandonment and neglect.
200 Years of Speaking Up for Animals
Hi. My name is Derrick and I work for RSPCA Essex Mid & North Branch, and I need your help with an urgent problem. Truth is, we need more money to continue helping with the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of animals in Essex.
This year 2024 marks the RSPCA’s 200th Anniversary. It should be a time for celebration. 200 years of being the voice of animals. Standing up against cruelty, neglect and abandonment.
So why, are we still here? Why is the RSPCA still relevant in the 21st century? Haven’t all the problems been solved by now?
Sadly not. We still see far too many cased of cruelty, pain and suffering. So, our work goes on.
The Importance of our Branch
What a lot of people don’t know, is that the RSPCA is a family of charities. The National RSPCA is what you’ll generally see on TV. They employ the Inspectors who investigate cases, deal with prosecutions and ultimately pick up the animals in need. Then around 140 branches across England and Wales pay for the boarding, health care and rehoming of more than 80% of these animals.
My Branch covers about half the county of Essex from the Suffolk border down to Brentwood & Billericay. We fund the boarding of all the animals picked up in our area. Last year we paid for 56 dogs and 151 cats at a cost us £57,000. That’s about £275 per animal each staying about a month in boarding while they have their veterinary needs attended to, vaccinations, microchipping, neutering, assessment before they find their new forever loving home.
Team Animal
We have a brilliant arrangement with the Danaher Animal Home in Wethersfield whereby they pick up all of the veterinary costs and deal
with the rehoming. We also have a great relationship with the RSPCA Inspectors who rely on us and Danaher to take in the animals they pick up.
Animals hit by the Economic Crisis
We all k
now that the state of the economy is terrible at the moment. Increases to minimum wage, rates and utility bills means that our boarding fees have risen, and we now need to find an additional £5,000 to help the same number of animals as last year.
Be an Animal Hero
This is where I need your help. In fact, the animals need your help. We don’t receive any government funding. We are a small local charity with a big job, and we are reliant on the generosity of people like you.
We need your donations now more than at any time during
the RSPCA’s 200-year history. I’ve put up a few rewards for different levels of donations. If anyone feels they can give us £200, we’ll reward them with a guided tour of the Danaher Animal Home or one of our Veterinary Clinics and for £50 you get the chance to name one of the cats or dogs before they’re rehomed.
Thanks very much for reading this. Please donate what you can, share the link and be an animal hero!
Perhaps you could do an Easter Eggschange?
