East and Southeast Asian Scotland (ESA Scotland) was founded in June 2020 and is the first-ever organisation in Scotland, dedicated to campaigning for the human rights of East and Southeast Asian (ESA) people. It was formed as a direct response to the increased racial discrimination and hate crime on the ESA community since the start of coronavirus pandemic. As an organisation, we hope to support the ESA community in Scotland and the rest of the UK through advocacy and campaign work and offering tailored culturally sensitive services and resources.
ESA Scotland takes a firm human rights-led approach. We strive to do better for the most under-represented people in the East and Southeast Asian communities, who have the right to equal opportunities and to be active participants of democratic civil society in the UK. We provide critical support that is needed by those who have been affected by hate crime, racism, discrimination, marginalisation, trafficking, poverty and destitution in the UK.
Why Crowdfund?
ESA Scotland are proud to have received funding from organisations such as The National Lottery, Comic Relief, Corra Foundation and The Scottish Government. However, continuous funding is not guaranteed. From 30th April 2021, we are not scheduled to receive further funding to carry out the crucial work needed by our communities. Please help us to continue the work of Scotland’s first non-profit dedicated to supporting East and Southeast Asian community.
We need your help urgently to continue funding our ongoing work which includes:
Core funding for overhead and staff costs for the day to day running of this organisation
Community support workshops and events that range from tackling isolation to hate crime awareness
Supporting vulnerable migrants, including asylum seekers and refugees, through online English lessons and other essential needs
Translation services
Mental health peer support guided by a professional therapist
Research and community data archiving to identify the needs of the community
Digital poverty scheme which provides support and training to the most vulnerable who do not have essential access to digital resources
From all of us at ESA Scotland, thank you for your support!
