New stretch target
Anything raised over the initial £850 will be used to promote the film and other Mandel Centenary projects.
2023 is the centenary Ernest Mandel and to mark this we are raising funds to produce film of a debate in which he took part in 1978.

Anything raised over the initial £850 will be used to promote the film and other Mandel Centenary projects.
In 1969 Ernest Mandel of the Fourth International debated with Monty Johnstone of the British Communist Party on socialist strategy, before an audience of thousands. Mandel's contribution was published in various places, in pamphlet form as a restatement of the Trotskyist case post-1968.
Nine years later, in 1978, the two heavyweight debaters for their respective traditions held a re-match in London and, at the end of 2022, four video reels of the debate, never before viewed, came into our possession!
So, we are hoping to raise enough money to have the video reels converted to a digital format and then professionally edited into a watchable film.
The reels are in an archaic mid-1970s format and so have to be commercially digitised- which is not cheap!
We have had the first reel done already- Monty Johnstone's 30 minute introduction. The picture quality on that one is good and the sound is excellent.
Anyone contributing a tenner to this project will be given access to the raw footage, as well as the finished film. People pledging £50 will receive one of Resistance Books' three Ernest Mandel titles and anyone pledging £100 or more will receive all three titles.
If we do hit the £850 target, anything over and above that will be used towards promotion of the film and other Mandel centenary projects.
Many thanks,
Rob
