Our Story
At Equal Measures, we are passionate about creating a more inclusive and diverse hospitality industry. Founded by Deano Moncrieffe, an industry expert with lived experience of the barriers of being a cultural minority. We understand the challenges faced by marginalised groups. Our team comprises diverse, dedicated individuals committed to promoting equity and representation in the hospitality sector. Professionals who share a commitment to equity and inclusion, bringing a wealth of experience and empathy to our mission.
Our Vision
Our vision is to build a hospitality sector where everyone, regardless of their background, can thrive and succeed. We aim to dismantle systemic barriers and provide opportunities for Black, Asian, and minority ethnic individuals, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people with neurodivergence. By fostering an inclusive environment, providing qualifications and mentorships to underrepresented workers, and consulting on EDI policy and practices within the industry, we hope to build a hospitality industry sector that is truly representative of the diverse society we live in.
Our Plan
Through our "Equity in Hospitality" project, we will offer comprehensive education and mentoring programmes, provide industry-recognised qualifications, and advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) practices. Our initiatives include:
1. Educational Qualifications & Licenses - Delivering training sessions focused on professional development and workplace inclusion, leading to qualifications like WSET Levels 1-3 in Spirits, and Personal Licence BIIAB Level 2.
2. Mentorship Programmes: Connecting participants with industry leaders who provide personalised guidance and support.
3. EDI Advocacy: Working with businesses, events and charitable bodies to implement inclusive policies and practices.
4. Community Engagement Events: Organising events to build networks, share intersectional experiences and struggles in the industry, and foster a strong sense of community.
How We Will Use the Funds
The money we raise will be used to:
• Support more people from underrepresented and marginalised backgrounds in their career progression within the UK Hospitality scene
• Develop and deliver educational training, workshops and materials.
• Support and expand our mentorship programmes.
• Fund advocacy campaigns and training sessions on EDI for the industry.
- Organise community engagement events that bring together participants and industry leaders.
