Aim

Funds for: electricity generators to power medical equipment at the War Victims Hospital in Drohobych, Ukraine.

They really still need our hand

This is an urgent appeal to fundraise for electricity generators for a war victims hospital in Drohobych, Ukraine. Over the last few days the Russian army has been vehemently bombing power stations and heat plants, which causes serious power shortages throughout the large regions of the country.

Sadly the Russian invasion in Ukraine continues and those who live there need our help even more now. Especially now, when the strongest emotions of disbelief subsided and the media lense turn elsewhere.

In the first weeks of the war in Ukraine I organised a fundraiser and the response was tremendous. Thanks to everyone who has donated or supported the fundraiser in many other ways. Together, we raised £4,270 through Crowdfunder and more through other means, i.e., music events, academic talks, or people just adding their donation person-to-person. We have also received funds from an auctioned family heirloom because donors trusted that the money would go to the ones that desperately needed it.

And it did - with all the donations, together with my good friends, we equipped medical points in the refugee centres and supported volunteers working with traumatised kids. We also sent 16 electricity generators to Ukraine - mainly to the hospitals in central Ukraine and to those defending the country on the frontline. We copied the kind messages written by the donors, translated them into Ukrainian, and attached a copy to each generator. We have received messages from the recipients of the generators, confirming how desperately those generators were needed there. They also let us know how every kind word of support was important because it let them know that they were not alone fighting for their freedom.

I am Dr Monika McNeill and I am a psychologist. I live in Glasgow but I'm originally from Lublin, a city in Poland, about 60 miles away from the Ukrainian border. Since the beginning of the war, together with my academic friends from a university in Lublin, Prof. Oleg Gorbaniuk and Prof. Julia Gorbaniuk, we got involved in: (1) purchasing electricity generators and sending them to Ukraine, (2) buying medical equipment for refugee shelters in Lublin, and (3) equipping volunteers with therapy instruments that allowed them to work with children refugees with anxiety, depression, and trauma. All that would have never been possible without all the money so generously donated.

This time around a newly opened hospital for the war victims in Drohobych, Ukraine, needs our support. The hospital is run by an international charity 'Caritas Foundation' and is personally managed by Igor Kozankevich, a director of Caritas in Drohobych. Since the beginning of the war Igor has been relentless in finding ways to support the war victims. He was on the Polish border in the first weeks, transporting refugees to safety, organising shelter, helping us to deliver the generators to those who needed them, and much more.

This fundraiser is set up to help Igor and 'Caritas Foundation', to buy electricity generators and (if the funds allow) medical equipment necessary for treating the war victims.

Together with my artist friends in Scotland we also organise Fundraiser Night 'They Still Need Our Hand'. It is going to be held at Glasgow Caledonian University, at the Student Association's Re:Union Bar on 28th October at 19:00-23:00. The event is possible thanks to many volunteers but mainly thanks to music from the wonderful 'The Fabulous Cruel Shoes', 'The D-Dad', and Victor Kennedy. Please join us if you can.

Money donated during the event and through this website will be used to buy the equipment.

We all do it as volunteers, therefore every single penny raised will go towards the cause.

Thank you.

Monika
