WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS
EQUI-POWER is an independent charity and member group of Riding for the Disabled. We believe in the power of horses to transform lives, and offer a range of therapeutic activities for children and adults with additional support needs to support their physical and emotional well-being, develop new skills, and have fun!
We provide a safe and welcoming environment for people of all ages and abilities to interact with horses and achieve their goals. Our Horse Riding, Equestrian Vaulting and Equine Facilitated Learning sessions are run by qualified coaches with the support of our wonderful volunteers.
We are currently operating from a temporary base, and need to secure our own premises in order to expand our service to reach more people.
Despite a series of challenges (not to mention Covid-19) in 2021 we managed to:
Research carried out by Riding for the Disabled National office shows that:
68% of participants improve their communication skills through taking part in RDA activities
76% experience more enjoyment in life
77% grow in confidence
76% experience physical improvement
82% improve their ability to build relationships
Currently RDA meets only 1% of national demand for it’s services.
What our Participants say:
"Our visits to EQUI-POWER have been hugely enjoyable for our pupils and the benefits have been immense. For pupils with conditions like ASD being around a horse seems to have a fundamental impact on how they socialise and interact with others. There is growing evidence that human-animal interventions can improve emotional health and social wellness in children, particularly those with autism spectrum disorder. The calming effect that our pupils experience whilst at EQUI-POWER cannot be overstated. Indeed the transformation has to be seen to be believed." (Local primary school)
“My daughter's physical and mental well-being have benefitted from riding and vaulting. During lockdown this has been seriously affected. It has improved my daughter’s confidence, strength, balance and skill set”
“My child is a different boy around the horses, I can see the anxiety lift”
“Riding has helped a lot with my cerebral palsy and helped me become stronger”
An entry into our Prize Draw will help us continue to provide these life-enhancing sessions to more people across the Central Belt. Our waiting list is getting longer by the week - the demand for health and wellbeing support has never been greater. Please help us make a difference this summer by entering our Prize Draw.
From us all at Equi-Power, thank you for your support.
