Pilot a new 360-degree fitness and lifestyle programme for new and existing members of our boxing club

by Jonathan Hunter in Newtownards, Ards and North Down, United Kingdom

Who are we?

Enler Amateur Boxing Club was formed just a few short months ago.

Since setting up our new club, we have secured a lovely gym in the heart of Comber and fitted it out with a decent range of basic equipment. We have also set up the club as a registered charity and our membership has passed 50 already, with more wanting to join, but having to wait until we can increase capacity

We have a long way to go in our journey and it will take time, effort and a significant amount of financial support from everyone.

We believe that a sports club and especially boxing should not only serve the needs of our boxers, but be a second home for our members and the wider community

This club will continue to grow and develop and be a safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of abilities, age, gender, ethnic, religious or political backgrounds

Why are we crowdfunding?

As a newly formed club, we will put in place a diverse range of projects, activities and programmes.

Our new range of programmes will commence in Mid February, continue throughout March and will include:

Twice weekly drop-in specialist fitness training with bespoke development plans for all - delivered by fully qualified trainers and coaches. These sessions will be free and open to anyone in our community and will be delivered over 6 weeks.

We will require the services of 2 qualified fitness coaches paid at a reasonable market rate

We recognise that good Mental health outcomes and resilience-building are crucial to all-round wellbeing. Again, through open-door sessions we will offer individual mental health support sessions. this will include group meditation and mindfulness, anger management, coping with anxiety and managing depression through exercise. These sessions will be facilitated by Mental Health professionals and recognised mindfulness coaches and will be offered to different age groups via 3 weekly sessions over 6 weeks

Mental Health facilitators will be qualified in a wide range of support, counselling and interventions and costs will be based on an hourly rate commensurate with experience and market rates.

Central to maintaining a healthy lifestyle is the need to ensure our stakeholders are aware of and can access a balanced and nutritious diet. We will deliver twice weekly healthy eating workshops. Again, these will be available over 6 weeks and a qualified dietician/nutritionist will deliver the sessions. 3 such sessions will be hosted on a Saturday morning/early afternoon and will follow on from a non-contact boxing workout.

A dietician/nutritionist will be engaged to deliver workshops, advise individuals, create weekly recipes and oversee the delivery of Box and Brunch events - particularly with regards to health and safety, food preparation and storage

The dietician will work with small groups to prepare a healthy and affordable brunch menu that participants will share amongst themselves. Box and Brunch sessions will take place on a Saturday mornings 3 times over the 6 weeks of activities.

The dietician will be compensated at market rates

With such progressive community engagement plans, we recognise that our stock of equipment may need to be increased. All equipment purchased will be for the delivery of these new activities. Future programmes will benefit from having access to additional equipment. This will include Personal Protection items such as Chest Protectors, head guards, groin guards, hand wraps and additional sets of boxing gloves

We will select the equipment that offers best value for money and product longevity

How we’ll spend the money raised

As a registered charity, we will be totally open and transparent about what we do with all income to the club. We will ensure that anything the club invests in is good value for money, will be of the highest quality and will be an asset owned by the club - which is essentially our community and used in the furtherance of similar, new projects.

We want to give our members (new and existing) and our community access to the support they need to establish and maintain a legacy of general wellbeing and fitness. We hope that Going Toe-to-Toe will inspire our community to be more involved in its own health and welfare and hope to set in place a new, innovative project that inspires this

Community impact

Enler Amateur Boxing Club exists to offer fitness support, wellbeing, lifestyle advice, healthy eating, positive mental outcomes and social experiences for children, young people and young adults from our community.

By being part of our boxing family, we hope to provide role models to our members, engage a strong volunteer ethos and become a place where our members can have a true sense of belonging and connectedness to their wider community.

We hope to inspire children and young people to develop their skills in boxing and sport generally, but more than that. Boxing offers 'softer' benefits such as instilling a sense of self discipline & self worth, respect for others, camaraderie, team work, improved social skills, reduces isolation and exclusion, reduces stress, anger and anxiety, boosts mental health and increases self confidence

How you can play your part

There are five simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!

2. Spread the word. Share our project on social media  and tell everyone to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. If you are a local business you can sponsor the club or donate items or services that we can offer to our supporters.

4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!

5. Gift Aid your Pledge. Because we are a charity if you are a basic rate tax payer, you can agree to allow the club to reclaim the tax paid on your donation from HMRC. This does not cost you anything more but will increase your donation to the club 25%
