Enamel Paint Short Film

Aim

To generate funds to support the making of Enamel Paint, a short film written by the Kamwendo brothers, from the team that created WYSDIB.

When his estranged father returns with one final contract, a hitman is forced to confront the legacy of violence that binds them.

The Story

Enamel Paint is a restrained crime drama exploring faith, fatherhood and inherited violence. 

Ngozi is a young hitman attempting to build his life away from the violent one he has inherited. But when his estranged father, Moses, unexpectedly returns after 6 years, old wounds resurface. What begins as a tense reunion develops into a reckoning between father and son as buried truths emerge and Ngozi is forced to confront the legacy that has shaped both of them. 

Enamel Paint explores the idea of surfaces: the things we coat, harden and preserve as a means to survive. In the world of this film, violence is not chaotic, but ritualised, passed down from generation to generation. Like enamel paint, these lives are sealed over with routine and restraint, creating a durable finish that hides the cracks beneath.

Intimate and contained, the film uses grounded performances and silence as much as dialogue to explore the cost of emotional survival - asking whether a hardened exterior is protection or simply another form of imprisonment.

The Team

Written and directed by Myles (BBC3's Boarders, Ruben Östlund's Entertainment System is Down) and Tadi Kamwendo. Produced by Cicely Walmsley, Executive Producer Prince Taylor.

Awards

The screenplay has already reached the final of the Santa Barbara International Screenplay Awards, and received an Honourable Mention at the prestigious Big Apple Film Festival. It was also a Top 10 Finalist in the BFI Short Film Fund.

Enamel Paint will be the second short from this creative team, whose first, 'Why You Shouldn't Date In Bristol', has so far qualified for BIFA, been accepted into 4 film festivals, including Encounters, which is BAFTA Qualifying. The success of WYSDIB is testament to the incredible crew, and to the incredible generosity of Bristol film institutions and everyone who donated to the Crowdfunder and made it possible. 

The Goal

With Enamel Paint, we are wanting to build on this momentum and on this team. All funds raised through this Crowdfunder will be used to pay our crew, to safely shoot in iconic Bristol locations such as Leigh Woods, and to make sure everyone is well fed and looked after on set. 

If we hit this goal, we will go for a stretch aim of £15,000. This would allow us to fully realise our plans for post production, as we would be able to pay a composer and graphic designer. We'd also be able to enter into the full festival run we have planned. Most importantly though, the stretch aim would allow us to pay trainees to be on set with our crew, therefore building up the next generation of local filmmakers.
