Aim

Raising funds to support Yere Dzikan's mentoring programmes for young women in Ghana, helping them build confidence and career opportunities

1.Who we are

We are crowd4change a group of students from the University of Westminster who were deeply moved by the mission and impact of Yere Dzikan. Inspired by the organisation’s work empowering young women in Ghana, we decided to support their cause by creating a campaign to raise awareness and encourage fundraising within our university community.

Yere Dzikan focuses on helping young women develop confidence, access mentorship and gain exposure to professional opportunities. Through mentoring programmes, career events and work shadowing initiatives, the charity supports girls in their final years of secondary education as they begin to shape their future paths.

Through this website, we aim to highlight the importance of empowering young women and to introduce the work of Yere Dzikan to a wider audience. Our campaign also includes a fundraising event on campus, designed to bring students together around a meaningful cause and support the charity’s initiatives.

By learning more about this project and supporting the campaign, you are contributing to an initiative that helps create opportunities for young women to grow, lead and achieve their ambitions.

2. About Yere Dzikan

Yere Dzikan is a UK-registered charity dedicated to empowering young women in Ghana through mentorship, education and career development opportunities. The name “Yere Dzikan,” which means “take the lead” or “pave the way” in Akan, reflects the organisation’s commitment to helping girls build confidence and become future leaders in their communities.

The charity focuses particularly on girls in the final years of secondary school, a crucial period when young people begin making important decisions about their futures. Through mentoring sessions, career events and work shadowing opportunities, Yere Dzikan helps these young women better understand the professional world and develop the confidence needed to pursue their ambitions.

Yere Dzikan also works closely with local partners in Accra and supports young women through practical initiatives that strengthen both personal development and long-term opportunity. Its mission goes beyond access to education by helping girls prepare for the next stage of their lives with greater awareness, aspiration and independence.

3. Why This Cause Matters

Although progress has been made in girls’ access to education, many young women still face structural barriers that limit their ability to fully benefit from learning and professional opportunities. These barriers can include gender stereotypes, limited access to career guidance, low confidence, social expectations and unequal opportunities in certain fields.

For many young women, education alone is not always enough. They also need support, encouragement and practical exposure to the world of work in order to believe in their own potential and make informed decisions about their future. This is why mentorship and career development programmes are so important. They help bridge the gap between education and opportunity.

Supporting this cause means supporting a long-term vision of empowerment. When young women are given the tools, knowledge and confidence to grow, the benefits extend beyond the individual. Families, communities and wider society can all benefit from greater equality, stronger leadership and expanded economic opportunity.

4. Support the Cause

There are different ways to support this campaign and help us contribute to Yere Dzikan's work. One of the main aims of our project is to raise awareness of the charity’s mission and encourage members of the university community to get involved.

Our team is organising a fundraising event on campus to promote the campaign and collect donations in support of Yere Dzikan. This event is intended to increase the charity's visibility while giving students and staff an opportunity to participate directly in a meaningful cause. We are also using digital platforms to share information, promote engagement and communicate the importance of supporting young women’s empowerment.

Every contribution, whether through donations, sharing information or attending the event, can help strengthen the impact of the campaign. By supporting this cause, you are helping to create more opportunities for young women in Ghana to access mentorship, guidance and the confidence needed to pursue their goals.
