I am seeking your support to stand for election to the London Assembly. I was shortlisted a few weeks ago and didn't realise how much standing a chance of being selected cost! The three boroughs have 14,000 members and a mass text to remind people to vote costs £500, thats without emails and leaflets.

I grew up on a council estate as the daughter of immigrants. My parents and my extended familiy began arriving in Highbury and Finsbury Park in the 1960’s escaping conflict in their homeland of Cyprus in order to seek a better life. My mother worked  long hours in the North London rag trade as a seamstress in non-unionised sweatshops.

We are facing the fight of our lives over the next 5 years and I want to see a campaigning GLA that takes the battle against austerity to the next level. I was a child in Thatchers Britain and experienced the stark challenges of emergency accomodation in B&Bs in Islington following family breakdown in the mid 1980’s. I grew up on a North London council estate and represent a North London voice which will connect with the many residents who are rooted in the area. I am passionate about housing and security of tenure because I know that children are now waiting 10 times longer than I did. I believe that families who now wait over 10 years for accommodation deserve a secure council tenancy at council rents. Things were supposed to get better but for housing they got worse because of the historic Tory attack on the principle of social housing through right to buy and the active prevention of councils from building.

I am first and foremost a socialist and have a track record of delivery based on those principles.
