Emergency Christmas Appeal for Peruvian Children

Raise £5,000 to buy land next to our community school in Huanchaco and double the space for learning, creativity, and opportunity.

Every year, we promise ourselves we’ll send our Christmas appeal early.
Every year… we don’t.
And this year? Well, we’re basically at Christmas Day.
But this time, we have a very good reason.
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity has just appeared: we have the chance to buy the plot of land right next to our Recreational Educational Centre (REC) in Huanchaco, Peru.
If you know Otra Cosa Network, you know the REC. It’s a small, informal community school where children come for homework help, reading support, creative activities, encouragement, and yes — skateboarding too. It’s a safe space, a second home, and a lifeline for many local kids.
Now imagine doubling that space.
A neighbour is selling the land next door.
It’s available right now.
And it costs just £5,000.
If we can secure it, we can immediately expand the REC and, if we raise more than our target, finally start building something we’ve dreamed of for years: a proper community learning centre. A place where children can use computers for the first time, teenagers can learn IT and digital skills, and adults can access online services without travelling miles.
This land is the first step — and it’s a step we can’t afford to miss.
If we raise less than £5,000, nothing is lost. Every donation will still go directly toward improving the REC: buying materials, supporting students, and strengthening the safe learning environment the community depends on. Nothing will be wasted.
Yes, this is a Christmas emergency appeal — the kind where Santa has clocked out and we’re fundraising at 11:59pm on Christmas Eve. But what’s at stake is truly transformative.
