Myla After The Attack: Emergency Help for Families

Aim

To provide urgent practical support to families in Myla, Ukraine, whose homes and lives were devastated by a Russian attack on 29 August.

Emergency support for families in Myla, Ukraine

On the evening of 28 August 2026, the village of Myla in the Dmytrivka community, Kyiv region, was struck by a Russian drone. The strike caused a major fire and a devastating series of explosions that continued for hours.

The human cost has been immense. 38 people have been killed and 52 injured, including five children. Around 300 buildings have been damaged, including more than 200 private homes and 14 apartment buildings. Some homes have been completely destroyed. Media Source: The Guardian

Families who had homes only days ago are now facing shattered roofs and windows, damaged belongings, disrupted electricity and utilities, and an enormous and dangerous clean-up.

Among those killed was Taras Didych, Head of the Dmytrivka community, who was one of the first to arrive at the scene to help local people.

Why we are helping

Devon Ukrainian Association is a community organisation based in Devon, UK, supporting Ukrainians affected by the war and building connections between Ukrainian and British communities.

This tragedy has a very direct connection to our own community.

One of the Ukrainians in Exeter who contacted us after the attack comes from this community. Her family is there, and people she knows personally have lost their homes. She asked us whether we could help.

Our answer is yes.

We are therefore launching this emergency appeal in direct contact with people on the ground and the local community.

What your donations will do

We are working with representatives of the Dmytrivka community to identify what families need most urgently.

The initial needs include practical essentials for people whose homes have been destroyed or badly damaged: protective footwear and clothing, cleaning equipment and supplies, household essentials and other urgently required items.

As the local authority completes its assessment, we will update this appeal with the confirmed priority needs.

Our aim is simple: to turn solidarity into practical help that reaches people who need it.

How the help will reach Myla

We have a trusted local contact who is ready to coordinate purchasing and delivery on the ground, working with the affected community.

Devon Ukrainian Association will oversee the funds raised. Purchases and distributions will be documented wherever possible, and we will provide updates to our supporters showing how donations have been used.
