Aim

Help us to continue our vital work, supporting people detained by the immigration service in Dungavel

Scottish Detainee Visitors (SDV) has been supporting people detained in Dungavel for more than 20 years, and we usually launch a crowdfunder in December to help us provide additional support to people at Christmas. 

This year is a little different. Like many small charities we are finding the funding environment extremely challenging and, despite making many funding applications, we are now becoming concerned about our survival. We are hoping that you can help. 

The good news is that SDV does all its work on a very small budget, so a little goes a long way: 

• A £10 donation would pay for a mobile top up voucher to enable someone in detention to keep in touch with their family and their lawyer
• A £25 donation would pay for the travel costs for one visit to Dungavel for our staff or volunteers
• A £30 donation would provide an emergency cash grant to someone who is about to be removed from the country

We are the only charity to visit people in Dungavel every week and people detained there really value what we do. Here's what some of them have said: 

“It takes a toll on you. It gets to the point where you need to talk about it……If you have had a low day, if you feel down and miserable and depressed, you go to the visit….one of them will ask you why you are so down so you can tell them. SDV have a way to make us feel better so it’s worth it.”

“I would open up and tell them. On one occasion, I nearly tried to commit suicide, and I was free to talk to a visitor. Deep things. Yes, I felt that I could trust them, I could open up.”

“SDV were the only people who gave me a Christmas present.”
