Ellesmere Scouts, Cubs and Beavers groups meet regularly to learn, have fun and to support local girls and boys to help them make a positive contribution to society. We are building a NEW modern Scout Hut building which will be used for their meetings and can be hired by other community groups too.

0History and Community
Back in the 1930's the fantastic people of Ellesmere worked together to buy land in the centre of the town and built the original Ellesmere Scout Hut, which was used by local Scouts and many other community groups for decades. In recent years, due to its age and construction, it became unviable to repair. Since then we have been working on a project to build a new, warm, dry and safe building on the same convenient site. The aim is to secure the same opportunities for the Scouts and other community groups to meet in Ellesmere for generations to come.
Modern New Building for Ellesmere
The plan is to build a single story modern building which is 144 square metres in size, of brick and corrugated panel construction, on the land that the Scouts already own, which extends to a quarter of an acre. The architect’s plans are available to view – please contact us if you wish to see them. The building will meet all the current building regulations with smoke alarms, emergency lighting, heating and fire exits etc. and will include toilets, kitchen and lobby area, as well as the main room.
Due to the volunteers fundraising to date and the huge generosity of local people and companies, the shell of the new building is already up and there is enough funds to make the building water tight, before this winter. However, to complete the project we need further funds to pay for the internal of the building - flooring, walls, windows, doors, electrics, plumbing, kitchen, toilets etc.
Who is it For?
Once complete the new Scout Hut will be used weekly by the current Ellesmere Scout group of 21 boys and girls. As new volunteer helpers have been recruited, a new Ellesmere Beavers group will begin 15th September 2022 for up to 24 and during 2023 there will be a group of up to 36 cubs too.
The Scout Hut will be available for local people to hire (when not in use) for family parties, whist drives and gatherings. There are a wide range of other local community groups that have expressed an interest in hiring Ellesmere's new Scout Hut on a regular basis including; The Ellesmere Amateur Dramatics Society, Guides, Men in Sheds, Probus, Rotary Club, Knit and Natter Group, Fizz Giggs, The Plantation Group and other fitness and youth organisations. Once built the new Scout Hut will be self-funding.
