The Cause
The drumbeat of the Euros was barely noticeably in England, background noise to the hustle and bustle of life, yet in Prague it was growing louder and louder as the boisterous partisan fans urged on their team until it was silenced when the Lionesses triumphed over Czechia to win the Lacrosse European Championships last year.
It’s now 2024, World Lacrosses decade-long vision to return the sport to the Olympic stage has been realised, with the International Olympic Committee approving lacrosse’s inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
In England, sponsors have yet to embrace women’s lacrosse, the spine of the Women’s GB Lacrosse Team that will hope to compete in Los Angeles, will no doubt come from this talented group of players, who like many that chase the elusive Olympic and Paralympic dream are self funded.
The team, who are the current Home Nations and European U21 Champions, are ranked 4th in World, and will be among the Medal contenders for the 2024 World Championships in Hong Kong. This squad of talented athletes are all full time students, balancing the demands of elite sport with their education and fundraising.
