We're still collecting donations

On the 17th July 2024 we'd raised £20,107 with 170 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.

Any further money raised will go into purchasing further equipment and help us make the gym more sustainable.

Who are we?

Elisha House Recovery Community is small charity based in Colne, East Lancashire. We support 31 residents at any one time whom have a history of substance misuse as well as run a community café and gardening project.

Our overarching ethos is The Five Ways to Wellbeing and as such we have daily physical activities that include group workouts, bike riding, hiking, mindfulness, crown green bowling plus many more.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Elisha House aims to create a new gym facility that will not only benefit our residents but their families and friends as well as the wider community. With this project, we aim to provide a space where individuals can engage in physical activity, promote health and wellness, and foster a sense of community. The new gym facility will be fully equipped, offering a wide range of fitness options for people of all ages and abilities.

Currently we are working out in our back garden (in all weathers!) as the space we have is tiny.

We have witnessed the positive impact exercising daily can have on our residents physical and mental health - some of them would never of had the confidence to walk into a regular gym because of self esteem issues and the stigma around addiction and mental health and as such we are excited to bring this opportunity for our residents and those with similar barriers in the wider community.

How will we spend the money raised

The total project cost is estimated at £343k and so far we have £320k pledged to us via Sport England and the National Lottery.

We have used some of the money that has already been pledged towards a business plan and also feasibility study and project management costs. Most of the rest of money will be used towards building and refurbishing an old industrial building. The shortfall we are trying to raise in this Crowdfunder will go towards a full fit out of the gym. We are aiming to crowdfund £20,000 of the £23,000 needed as we have managed to secure £3,000 through other fundraising efforts.

Community Impact

We aim to have a significant impact on the local community. By providing a central hub for recovery focused physical activities in East Lancashire, we aim to create a supportive environment for individuals seeking recovery from addiction and poor mental health. The activity hub will offer a variety of programs that will be inclusive for people of all fitness levels. This will not only benefit our residents and people directly involved in recovery but will have a ripple effect on their families, friends and the wider community. We are aiming to provide an activity hub that is affordable and accessible to the local community that will help them to get fit, stay fit and easily access the help that they need.

By promoting recovery, inclusion and wellbeing, the activity hub will contribute to reducing stigma, improving community cohesion, and fostering a healthier and more inclusive community overall. Together, we can create a positive and lasting impact on the lives of individuals and the community as a whole.
