ESD is creating an electrifying spring 2023 season of a new dance work: Human!
In 2011, Eliot Smith created a dance group that would go on to be an award winning North East leading contemporary dance company. Often collaborating with celebrated choreographers, dancers, musicians, designers and other arts related companies from the UK and around the world – ESD aims to welcome everyone to experience the power of contemporary dance via accessible dance programmes and community projects in urban and rural settings.
Today ESD continues its mission, to produce and tour a new dance work and deliver community workshops for people across the North East and beyond.
On this special occasion, Eliot Smith is creating a new dance work, Human, on one exceptional dancer Yamit Salazar, choreographed to the finest original music by multi prize-winning composer Adam Johnson. This explosive dance work of mesmerising solos explores the joys, the sorrows, the idiocies, the brilliance of anything human.

Human will be performed at NEWBIGGIN-BY-THE-SEA (Newbiggin Maritime Centre, 26 May), BERWICK-UPON-TWEED (The Maltings, 02 June), WARKWORTH (Warkworth Memorial Hall, 10 June), DARLINGTON (Darlington Hippodrome, 15 June), GATESHEAD (Sage Gateshead, 23 June), and online performance (30 June).
Tickets for HUMAN go on sale from 03 February 2023 by clicking here.
In addition, there will be opportunities for ticket holders to watch company rehearsals, and for children, young people and adults to engage in community workshops across the North East.

ESD is also offering free tickets for people who are struggling with the cost of living, giving them the opportunity to attend ESD's live dance performances, or for pay-what-you-can donations. It promises to be a season like no other!

We have been unsuccessful in securing grants due to the current financial crisis where there is less arts funding available. We are returning back to Crowdfunder because we have been successful in the past. We found it very valuable because it gives the opportunity for people to be part of the work more closely, celebrate our supporters and followers and reach out to those new to the ESD journey. We believe in this work and want to continue inspiring children, young people and adults via performances and workshops whilst offering paid-work to artists and creatives.
Plus as a Crowdfund supporter you will be entitled to exciting rewards.
We acknowledge these are financially tough times and therefore any amount donated to our Crowdfunder is greatly appreciated.

We hope you'll check out all of our rewards for both local fans and those around the world (see the right of the page). All backers £10 and above receive the £10 reward package, including digital photos from our project updates and more!
Here are some of our personal favourites:

Our Spring 2023 Season has many costs and as a not for profit dance company, ticket sales will go back to the project costs.
As a Crowdfund supporter your donation will go directly towards commissioning expenses for the choreographer, supporting our dancer, composer, musicians and production team, the creation of new sets and costumes, operational costs and overheads from January 2023 until August 2023.
