Support Marit Behner-Coady for Fort William and Ardnamurchan

I’m Marit Behner-Coady, and I’m running to be your Green Party councillor for the Fort William and Ardnamurchan Ward. As a resident of Lochaber and a community advocate, I’m passionate about fighting for a fairer deal for our communities and ensuring local voices are heard.

Why I am running

Lochaber deserves a fair share of the wealth generated by local tourism and energy projects. Right now, the profits from wind farms and hydroelectric dams leave our region, while the impacts are felt by our communities and landscapes. I will push for stronger agreements that secure direct investment into public services, such as road maintenance, housing, and better facilities. I’m also advocating for the swift implementation of the Tourist Visitor Levy (TVL) to ensure that tourism revenues are reinvested locally and used to support our infrastructure.

The lack of affordable housing is another urgent issue. Rising housing costs are pushing many families out of our communities. I’ll advocate for new developments that prioritise local people and key workers, ensuring we have access to affordable, high-quality, and sustainable housing options.

Having worked on farms across Scotland, I know firsthand the struggles faced by small-scale producers. I want to build stronger support for local farmers, so we can create a self-sufficient local food system that celebrates our rural heritage and strengthens our economy.

Public transport in Lochaber also needs investment to support our communities. While Inverness has secured funding to expand its bus services, I believe Lochaber deserves the same. Reliable public transport is essential to reduce vehicle congestion, strengthen community cohesion, and provide accessible options for everyone. I will fight for better bus services and transport links that serve the needs of our region.

How You Can Help

Running a campaign requires resources, from printing leaflets to running events and reaching out to residents. Without large corporate backers, I’m relying on small donations from people like you who care about the future of our community. Your support, whether it’s a small donation or sharing this campaign, will make a huge difference in helping me get our message out to every corner of the ward.

Even a donation of £10 could pay for 150 leaflets, and £20 could help us reach twice as many residents. I recognize that not everyone can give financially, but spreading the word on social media or speaking to your neighbours about our campaign are equally valuable.

Let’s Make a Difference Together

Lochaber needs a fresh voice at Highland Council—one that isn’t afraid to ask tough questions and advocate for meaningful change. With your help, we can ensure that the community gets a fair deal and that our voices are heard.

Thank you so much for your support!
