Elect Isabella and Lorenzo to Edinburgh Council!

Aim

Let’s win our FIRST EVER Edinburgh Council by-elections, giving us the best possible start for next year’s full council elections!

After our resounding success at the Scottish Parliament elections in May, the Edinburgh Greens have a new challenge - win our first-ever council by-elections.

The resignation of two SNP councillors gives us the opportunity to make a little bit of history - the first ever Green by-election wins in Edinburgh, and only the second (and third!) by-election wins in Scottish Greens history.

We have selected two great candidates - Isabella Gastel Alejandre - a self-employed gardener, community activist and recent graduate - for Southside/Newington, and Lorenzo Martinico - a homelessness campaigner and activist in the co-operative movement - for Portobello/Craigmillar.

We can elect both of them with your help. Southside/Newington contains a chunk of Edinburgh Central, where we just elected Lorna Slater as the first Green constituency MSP. In Portobello/Craigmillar, our analysis of the Holyrood results election shows us within touching distance of coming in first place.

Getting Isabella and Lorenzo elected will show everyone how serious a force the Greens are becoming, giving us another boost ahead of the main elections to Edinburgh Council in May 2027, which could see the Greens govern Edinburgh for the first time. This could mean Green policies being put into practice in Edinburgh - rent controls, better public transport, protecting our green spaces and much more.

Let’s get Isabella and Lorenzo elected to make this happen!

• £500 will pay for a leaflet that will go to every house in one of our target wards.
• £750 will pay for ‘organiser training,’ to make sure we are training up new organisers to mobilise people to knock doors and deliver leaflets
• £1,000 will make sure we can send targeted letters to key voter demographics in the wards. We want to make sure that we speak to first-time voters, migrants who might not know they can vote, and postal voters who are often more likely to vote, telling them that they should vote Green.

Please note: if you are kind enough to donate more than £50 to a candidate or £500 to the Scottish Green Party, your name and address will be checked against the electoral register to ensure you are a permissible donor.

Donations over £50 for any individual candidate will appear in the election return and donors over £7,500 will appear on the Electoral Commission website. Multiple donations from the same source will be aggregated for recording and reporting purposes.
