Elect Her - Time for a Different Type of Politics

Just 35% of elected representatives in the UK are women, despite being over half of the population. Clearly, this is not representative. Women are 51% of the UK population, we should be 51% of elected officers throughout the four nations. 

We have the power to affect change. 

Elect Her helps women from all backgrounds, and all political parties, to put themselves forward for election. Donate today to help build our fund to be given to women running as candidates in upcoming elections, from all parties and none. Every pound you donate today will be generously matched by one of our donors.

Campaigning for seats in elections can be expensive and this immediately excludes a whole raft of talent. Elect Her equips women with the tools they need to campaign for positions in local and national Government. As well as instilling confidence and know-how, we also provide funding for women from low -income backgrounds. 

Community activism is a brilliant source of future leaders. Women are working at grass roots level to address issues in their communities, providing successful solutions to problems in their local area. We find and nurture these women. Self-selection to politics is how we’ve ended up with predominantly white, male systems. We’re changing the status quo.

The Time is Now. Local Elections are in 2023 and the next General Election is in 2024.

We need to build a fighting fund now to be in with a chance of seeing a shift in the next elections. With the current pace, it will take us until 2077 to reach gender parity. I don’t know about you, but we’re not prepared to wait that long!

Laying the groundwork for election starts now. We will fund women from all parties, in both local and national elections. Our funding will help women to overcome the most common barriers to running a successful campaign, including childcare, tech support and provision, and transport. In addition, Elect Her supports women through mentorship, peer circles and with free educational tutorials. So far, 225 women from our community have stood for elections and 95 were elected. We want to build on this for the next elections.

Women belong in all places where decisions are being made.

Elect Her has helped thousands of women already. Our free online webinars, tutorials and other resources are providing the forward momentum for scores of women to start to realise their political potential and ambitions. 

We need to help more women that look like me and you, that have our life experiences, to forge a path that enables them to take a seat at the table. The less our politicians look like us, the less they act in our interests, and the more at risk our democracy becomes. Working class women, disabled women and women of colour in particular - all of whom have plenty of skills and life experience to draw on, are too often ignored and unheard in political spaces. Elect Her exists to ensure that politics, and politicians, begin to represent all of us.

Imagine a world where our Government truly represents us

Imagine a world where policies and laws that affect women most are given due time and consideration. With women in the room, in positions of power, our voices will be heard. For too long, we have not had enough opportunity to shape policy, to shape the future. That changes now. We do not need to dream, this can be a reality.

We can do this together.

We are the people. Our individual and collective actions can affect significant change. At a time when many of us are disillusioned with politics, we can direct our focus to what we can do. Whilst we can all exercise our right to vote, it is important to ensure that the pool of candidates to choose from is wide and rich and gender balanced. 

This Crowdfunder is just the start. We intend to grow the Elect Her community, which will, in turn, increase the number of women activists and political candidates we can support.
