Additional Extras
If we manage to smash our target we also love to provide some added extras which would enable the children to learn about how they and their families can tackle climate change by making small changes at home :
- Guttering, down pipe and water butt for harvesting and re-cycling rainwater.
- Mini wind turbine/solar panels/energy monitoring display and batteries. The children use this to understand how renewable energy is created from the sun and wind. Can then be used to power laptops and other electrical items.
- Weather station to monitor local conditions and compare to national trends.
- Bug, bird and flower boxes to attract bio-diversity right up to the classroom.
- Secure storage for class supplies.
- Standard electrical power supply.
- Wind break roll-up and roll-down canvas panels
- External bench seating and landscaping.
Outdoor Classroom Campaign
Edwinstree School Association would LOVE fellow parents, former students and local businesses to support our fundraising to build an Outdoor Classroom, in which the children can learn outdoors, be inspired by nature and consider our impact in the natural environment. This classroom would link the Growing Garden and Wildlife Area, allowing the children to learn in a calming and enjoyable space, throughout the seasons, regardless of what the weather decides to do!
Teaching the children outside in the fresh air has both physical and mental health benefits for students and teachers. The structure, similar to the picture, would be large enough to accommodate a whole class, but also host smaller learning groups. In the evenings, weekends and school holidays, the space could also be used by local sports clubs and community groups.
Additional Funding
Crowdfunding is just one of the ways in which Edwinstree School Association are raising money for the Outdoor Classroom Campaign. We have been busy organising and hosting FUNdraising events for our students and the local community. These have included Discos, Quizzes, Escape nights and Summer Afternoon Treats with plenty more events planned for the rest of 2023.
Gardening Club students have been selling plants and fresh produce nurtured in the growing garden.
Old school jumpers have been recycled into bunting and Christmas coasters by the Textile Club students and sold along side crocheted pumpkins and pompoms.
Local businesses have already been generously supporting our campaign and so far we have raised £3432.89 but we need more. We are hoping to raise another £3000 through generous gifting and match funding grants.
Your donation, no matter the size, is hugely appreciated, and whilst our initial target is to build the classroom we would love to do more.
