Aim: We mean to establish a national museum dedicated to education in England and Wales. We have an events programme to raise support.
In 2019 Hank Roberts, a teacher and prominent lifetime campaigner for education noticed something missing from our national life and culture - a museum dedicated to education. He gathered around him a group of colleagues who set up a website and started raising funds. Their goal was not dusty old cabinets with 19th century artefacts, but a museum of the 21st century, a museum with a purpose to learn from the past, the better to understand the present and be a guide to the future.
With nearly £300,000 in the bank and promised, the Museum trustees are organising events to spread the word about their project and multiply that sum by 10 to raise the £3 million to really set the project on its feet.
Events like the annual Fred Jarvis Memorial Lectures honouring one of the Museum's first Honorary Patrons with challenging lectures given by Melissa Benn (2023), Baroness Estelle Morris (2024) and Professor Mick Waters (2025) or the celebration of the life of John Pounds, the Portsmouth shoemaker whose began the movement which came to be known as the Ragged Schools Movement providing education for poor children.
We need support for these events, so please donate now to this Crowdfunder and help us invest in the future of education by learning from the past.
