Edinburgh Food Social's Good Food Hub

Edinburgh Food Social profile

Project by Edinburgh Food Social

We did it
On 27th August 2019 we successfully raised £21,520 with 140 supporters in 45 days

Food is the one thing that links us all together- help us create a Food Training Hub that teaches young people about the goodness of food.

 New stretch target

Our extra funding will go towards investing in creating an EVEN MORE inspiring space by creating a kitchen garden close to our Food Training Hub as well as being able to run the project for a greater period of time without the need for (often unreliable) funding.

About Us

The Edinburgh Food Social has been working with young people in Edinburgh for more than 3 years. Over this time, we have drastically improved the outcomes for kids from multiple schools across Edinburgh through our Food Truck project, as well as the work we carry our in classrooms across the city.

Our Project

Now we are about to embark on on our most ambitious project yet- to create a full-time, fully equipped Good Food Hub in Edinburgh- allowing us to teach youngsters about the amazing world of food; its quality, its flavour and its ability to create incredible careers working in the hospitality industry.

Our Good Food Hub will be a thought-provoking, inspiring and professional space where we can talk about food, as well as cooking and eating together. The space will be used to host young people for whom the classroom is not working out to use their practical skills to create better outcomes for themselves and those around them.

The Good Food Hub will also play host to a range of groups and organisations across the city to teach a huge range of individuals and community groups about food, as well as hosting community meals, Good Food Fridays and so much more.

What You're Funding

Our teaching hub will be located in the upcoming Edinburgh Palette culture hub in beautiful Portobello. With your aid and funding, we'll be transforming the old British Rail workshop on the site into a beautiful, inspiring teaching kitchen, with facilities to teach up to 12 students at a time, deliver catering jobs and host dinners.

In order to outfit the kitchen, we need to purchase the following:

- Kitchen fittings

- Food and provisions

- Kitchen equipment

- Training materials

- Uniforms

Our Rewards

The small team at Edinburgh Food Social will be working extraordinarily hard behind the scenes to create a sustainable business model, with multiple revenue streams to help us continue to succeed, year after year. Some of these will be used as rewards to get us started on our journey. You can see our selection of amazing rewards in the rewards list.

We hope that you will be able to support us and become an invaluable part of our journey; teaching the next generation about the importance of food to every part of our lives, and the lives of those around us.
