EDGE OF TIME is a groundbreaking one-woman immersive musical written and performed by RADA alumni DAISY BOULTON. Audience members will be engulfed in a dreamworld of original music and interpretive dance, as they are brought along a haunting exploration of the power of feminine hope and the life-affirming journey of breaking free from conformity. Inspired by the book A Woman On The Edge Of Time and the true life events of its subject, unsung feminist pioneer HANNAH GAVRON, this is the story of two women, decades apart, both faced with the choice of whether to live or die. Come along as their lives suddenly intertwine, right on the Edge of Time.

As our production includes themes of mental health and women's empowerment, we will be partnering with the incredible charity The Connection at St Martin's to help them invest in women's only safe spaces for those sleeping rough. To do so, we will be donating a portion of our profits from our ticket sales at Edinburgh to The Connection!

Join us for the world premiere at Edinburgh 2024 of the immersive musical EDGE OF TIME.

THE WHY

I have yo yo-d throughout my life with a great sense of confidence and courage one moment and then with what has felt like, a total loss of the sense of myself and worth, to the point of feeling like I should leave. On reading Hannah Gavron’s story - a woman who became a prominent sociologist and pioneer for second wave feminism on the face of it, but in actual truth, seemed to also yo yo with her sense of self and confidence, I felt Jeremy Gavron, the author and Hannah’s son, had tapped into something shared. As well as his mother’s life, he explored the context of difficulties women were up against in the sixties including laws around marriage and medical diagnoses and procedures around “hysteria”.

I have often felt afraid to share the depth of my own mental instability, with a shameful fear that I may be ‘locked up’. There seemed a link to this and the need to do something with Hannah's story and how it had made me feel, so I wrote songs in the first instance, which flooded out of me. I started gigging the music and people I had never met would approach and want to talk, sharing themselves in a disarmingly vulnerable way, conveying how moved they felt; some buying Jeremy’s book, upon discovering that my inspiration came from that source. People also seemed to realise that what I was sharing was more than songs and that there was a whole world and story behind them, spurring me on to eventually write the full musical.

Towards the end of last year, I finally faced and accepted that I have been suffering from a condition called PMDD - Premenstrual dysphoric disorder. At which point, I found a pill called LOONI - developed by women who had been suffering from similar symptoms. On taking LOONI, in just the first month, my life changed entirely for the better. The feeling that I had been living the wrong life evaporated. Now in the run up to my period, the anxiety, a deeper connection to my feelings and all of life (as I perceive it) is anchored by a sense of my own stability. This is something I have never sustainably known before and has created a growing trust and return to my inherent confidence.

This is my story and I do not know what may or may not have helped had this kind of supplement support been available before. Someone said to me, we all have our way into the house but ultimately we are sharing that house. This is my way in and I hope that it offers healing, as well as a unique and enthralling (fingers crossed) theatrical experience to audience members who come to the show!

FUTURE ASPIRATIONS

We would love to make a splash at Edinburgh, in order to bring the show to London as well as other parts of the UK. It is our greatest ambition to connect to audiences far and wide, to share Hannah’s story, and the mental health issues and women’s empowerment themes that the piece focuses on, as well as continuing to support our charity partner The Connection. The show’s tech dreams are vast and intend to engulf us in different moments in time, playing an integral, and captivating role in the telling of this story. We would love for Edinburgh to be the launching pad to bringing the fully upscaled production to London and other parts of the UK, in its full musical, immersive vision.

Thank you so much for reading and we hope to see you at The Underbelly in August!
