The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will match the funds raised here, by an amount of up to EUR 50,000, subject to the terms and conditions of the EBRD Community Initiative.
As a result of the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) in Jordan started receiving cancer patients from Gaza, mainly children aged between 18 months-19 years old, with an expectation to receive a total of 100 patients (both adults and children) by the end of 2024.
These patients can no longer receive any treatment in Gaza, considering the suspension of operations in Gaza’s only cancer hospital in November 2023 and due to the shortage in medical supplies, and the generally devastating health conditions.
They have been transferred to Jordan and will now go through a treatment journey which is expected to be costly, long and painful. With the help of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF), a minimum of USD 3 million is being raised to cover the cost of treatment, with an average cost per patient standing between JOD 40,000 - 50,000 (equivalent to USD 55,000 - 70,000).
KHCC covers several aspects in the treatment process including:
1) Medical treatment: Support for chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgeries, and other essential cancer treatments
2) Psychosocial support: Provision of counselling services, support groups, and mental health resources for cancer patients and their families
3) Patient support services: Assistance with local transportation, accommodation, and other logistical challenges for patients traveling to receive treatment.
Through this initiative, we are aiming to raise funds to treat these cancer patients arriving in Jordan from Gaza, at the King Hussein Cancer Center. KHCF will exclusively dedicate all funds to provide care and support to cancer patients and there will be no deductions made for any administrative expenses.
