Aim
We plan to expand the reach of our community cafe and the warmth of our lounge to ensure that local, vulnerable families are fed and warm.
Who?
The Rainbow Centre has been offering practical support to the homeless, vulnerable and those in crisis in Scarborough for over 25 years. This support can be in the form of an emergency food parcel, a hot meal in our community cafe, access to shower and laundry facilities, clean clothing, bedding and other household essentials. We believe people should have access to the most basics of needs and everyone is welcome here, without judgement.
What?
The reality of life for the most vulnerable in our community at the moment is always being cold, always being hungry. Imagine not even being able to take a shower or wash your clothes because you can't afford the bills and then imagine having to send your children to school in that state, hoping they don't get picked on. Supporting this project shows those families and those children that someone cares.
Why?
Our service users have been massively affected by the cost of living crisis and the huge impact of the steep rise in heating bills and food. Many of them were already having to choose between heating and eating - a situation which has now become unbearable. We fed and provided gifts for a large number of families, including working families, who have never needed to use us before this Christmas.
The crisis has also had an impact on our resources as a charity. People are still generous, but those who are struggling themselves are less able to donate food, money or time. With your help, we hope to be able to provide vital food and warmth to those in our community who are out of options.
How we’ll spend the money raised
The money raised will go a long way towards paying the energy bills to keep our lounge warm and comfortable and our shower and laundry facilities available. It will also enable us to continue providing food parcels and to have more hot meals available for those most in need.
