This August, Government is providing a 50% subsidy for people who eat out (with various conditions attached). The scheme aims to encourage people back into restaurants, but many of us who can claim the discount don't need Government to help pay for our meals.
There are, however, many families around the UK who do need help. Almost a third of children in the UK live in poverty. 1.6 million food bank parcels were given out across the country last year.
So I thought perhaps those of us who do eat out, might also REALLY help out, by donating our Government discount (and perhaps more) to help families who are struggling, particularly as a result of the pandemic and lockdown.
I set up this crowdfunding page to make it as easy as possible to help out alongside eating out.
I chose Home-Start UK because during lockdown Home-Start volunteers have been providing emotional and practical support to families who have been struggling, phoning to check parents are ok and offer support and - in some cases - delivering food to those who need it.
There are almost 200 local Home-Starts around the UK who support families with young children through really challenging times. Their 13,500 volunteers support over 50,000 children each year. I used to be a trustee of my local home-start and they have supported friends of mine, so I know just what a difference they can make.
