We provide music lessons to children from the East End of Glasgow and beyond on a subsidised basis. Children can participate in choir, orchestra and other group work, and have the opportunity to perform in concerts and festivals. The School provides instruments on free loan to the children and is fully inclusive, welcoming children of all levels of ability and from all religious and racial/ethnic backgrounds.

We are East Glasgow Music School, a registered charity based in the heart of the East End of Glasgow. We were established in 1997, having previously been known as Bannerman Music School (which began in 1978!).
Our ethos is to provide music lessons to children from all backgrounds on a hugely subsidised basis, breaking down the financial barriers that so often stop children from accessing music. We operate on Saturday mornings, and our team of dedicated staff and volunteers provide lessons in instruments from violin to trumpet, piano to flute. We offer choir and orchestra, and other group work based on age and stage.
We work with over 100 children every week, and many of our pupils go on to have careers in the world of music as teachers or professional performers.
In addition to learning and developing in their chosen instrument, our pupils gain valuable life skills – confidence, building friendships, challenging themselves at every stage. We take part in various festivals and performances throughout the year, and celebrate the contributions of every pupil.
We provide instruments to pupils on free loan, and will always strive to accommodate as many pupils as our timetables allow, often operating waiting lists.
In a hugely challenging funding landscape, we have lost 2 major funders over the last 2 years, and are now trying to make up the shortfall while we seek new sources of funding. In order to keep the school running, we are aiming to raise £20,000.
We are grateful to anyone who can contribute to this appeal – all donations large or small will make a huge difference to us.
We believe passionately in the value of what we provide, and that it should be there for the benefit of the next generation.
