We’re part of a national initiative launched by the Music Venue Trust to prevent the closure of 100s of independent music venues.
Hi everyone, it’s been a while!
Yardbirds Rock Club are taking part in a national initiative launched by the Music Venue Trust, working to prevent the possible closure of hundreds of independent music venues.
The Yardbirds opened in 2007 and we are proud to have provided a safe and friendly live music venue, enjoyed by visitors from all over the UK as well as our loyal local regulars.
Our venue has become an important hub for emerging artists and established touring bands from all over the world!
We believe we have consistently ‘punched above our weight’ for the size and location of our venue and we will continue to try and bring the highest quality of touring acts to Grimsby.
The list of established acts we have hosted is long, but to name a few would include, Skid Row, Nazareth, The Animals, Skindred, King King, Toyah, Jefferson Starship, Great White, Bad Manners, Funeral For A Friend, UK Subs, Wilko Johnson, Big Country, White Lion, Pat Travers, The Quireboys, The Blockheads and of course The Yardbirds. We have also hosted acts that have included past and present members of bands such as AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue, Oasis, Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Queensryche, The Scorpions, UFO, Anthrax, Status Quo, SLF, Saxon and Rainbow.
In recent years we are proud to have been a ‘stepping stone’ for acts like Kris Barras Band, Massive Wagons, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Evil Scarecrow, The New Roses, Eclipse and Jared James Nichols and will always champion new artists when we can.
For the past 13 years we have been a thriving, independently owned and run live music venue. Then along came Covid-19 and like many other businesses we closed our doors in March. We are still closed.
We have had no income since March apart from the initial Small Business Grant.
It has become very clear that live music venues in the UK will be the very last type of business to re-open and the possible restrictions that allow us to open could be very damaging to the long term future of live music venues.
Since closing our doors in March we have been truly humbled and overwhelmed by the amount of messages of support we have received, from well wishes, offers of financial support and people asking if there is anything they can do to help the club and our much loved bar team?
We hoped to have re-opened by now and that the financial support we received from the Government would have supported us through the Covid-19 crisis, but as more time passes it’s becoming clear that support alone isn’t enough. There are costs to being closed, Standing charges on utilities, insurance and ongoing maintenance amongst other things.
How can you help?
We are hoping to raise some funds through a Crowdfunding Initiative but with a slight difference. We believe you should have the option to receive something in return for your donation.
So please take a look at our Crowdfunding page, we have a choice of supporter rewards available, any purchase or pledge will help towards our costs and future plans.
Future plans!? Yes we have future plans. We are still working hard behind closed doors, rescheduling dates and continuing to add new shows for 2021.
We want to get live music back on our stage and open our doors to welcome you all back as soon as we feel it’s safe to do so.
Our plans this summer included starting some staged building improvements to provide upgraded toilet facilities and eventually increased space for both crowd and artists.
The donation drive will hopefully not only help cover our continued costs, but any monies raised in excess of our requirements will be added to top up our improvements fund.
Finally some of you who have purchased tickets for gigs that are cancelled have been kind enough to not want a refund and for the money to be donated to the club.
This is also a very kind gesture, but to be able to separate the donated money we will need the unwanted ticket to be handed into the Club,Solid Entertainments or Replay Records please.
We would like to wish our friends, customers, artists and bands a safe future, a future that includes rocking nights out at The Yardbirds!
Thank you to everybody for past and future support you have given us.
Stay Safe
The Yardbirds Rock Club Team.
