Aim: Raising funds for the Dylan Thomas Birthplace. For ongoing maintenance & upkeep of the house, and to help promote Dylan's work worldwide

The Birthplace receives no public funding, and is run as a labour of love by the Haden family, and a handful of loyal volunteers.

Dylan Thomas was born in the front bedroom of the house in 1914 and continued to live at Number 5 Cwmdonkin Drive until his parents moved out in 1937 of his “…Glamorgan villa…” overlooking the “…long and splendid curving shore…” of Swansea Bay. This is where the subject of the film Edge of Love and author of Under Milk Wood spent his formative years. Dylan’s birthplace has been fully restored to its condition in 1914 when it was bought as a new house by the Thomas family. It is where he wrote two thirds of his published work.

When you walk through the doors of this living museum, you immediately feel an uniquely intimate connection with the life of one of Wales’ greatest poets. In every room you breathe in the spirit of the Edwardian era, when the Thomas family first moved in.

The house was opened by Dylan’s daughter Aeronwy Ellis on the 94th anniversary of the poet’s birth in 2008. Former US President Jimmy Carter lends his voice to welcome visitors to the Birthplace. Notable past visitors include King Charles III (then Prince Charles) who visited in 2012, and actor & musician Johnny Depp in 2023.
