Thanks to everyone who has pledged so far in helping us reach our target, to make the orchard a reality.
We still have lots of ideas for developing the garden, for example planting more trees, growing berry fruits and attending training workshops to learn more about caring for the orchard.
Please keep pledging to help us make the community garden a truly special place in the city for all to enjoy!
Dyke Road Community Garden was started 4 years ago by a small group of volunteers. We grow a selection of vegetables, salad leaves and herbs. The garden is open to all park users who are welcome to join in or just enjoy the produce from the garden.

We want to expand the garden by planting a small orchard. The orchard will add to the range of community crops in the garden and encourage people to share in, and enjoy the garden. It will add to the local ecology and enrich the food sources for bees, other insects and birds. The orchard will initially consist of two local Sussex apple varieties, two pears and a plum tree.

We will be working with Brighton Permaculture Trust which has great expertise in planning and planting community orchards locally. They will support us to plant the trees, ensuring they're adequately protected, and provide ongoing aftercare and training in the care of fruit trees.
Local people will be welcome to join in with the planting and ongoing development of the orchard.
Good quality trees are quite expensive and we want to get expert training and support to maintain them. By supporting our project you will be helping to create a wonderful resource for generations to come.
The best planting time for trees is December/January, and we need to order our trees by the end of November at the latest so we don't miss this deadline.
