Aim

We are seeking funding to replace our tired outdoor practice nets with an upgraded modern and safe facility

Who are we?

Dunmow Cricket Club is a thriving, volunteer-led community organisation at the heart of Great Dunmow, Essex. Our club brings together players of all ages and backgrounds—ranging from under-9s to senior men’s and women’s teams—with over 200 active members and a growing supporter base. We are passionate about creating a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment where people can enjoy cricket, build skills, make friends, and become part of a strong local community.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Our motivation for this project is simple but urgent: to ensure our members can train in a safe, modern, and fit-for-purpose facility. Our current outdoor practice nets are over 15 years old and no longer meet the safety or functional standards required for effective training. The matting is worn, the netting has degraded, and the structure itself has become unstable in places—posing a safety risk to players, particularly juniors. As a result, use of the nets has been restricted, and this has already started to limit our coaching capacity and our ability to grow.

Now is the right time to act. The club has seen a remarkable surge in participation over the past five years. Our junior section has more than doubled in size, we have successfully launched a girls’ section and a women’s team, and we are seeing more families and young children join each season. Without modern training facilities, however, we simply cannot meet the growing demand or safely deliver the level of coaching our members deserve.

This project is not a new service, but a vital upgrade to an existing one. Our nets have always been central to club life — used by junior players learning the basics, adult teams honing their skills, and coaches running structured, engaging sessions. Replacing them will future-proof this provision, enabling us to expand training opportunities, run parallel coaching sessions, and ensure all members, regardless of age or experience, have access to high-quality practice.

How we’ll spend the money raised

This project is more than just an infrastructure upgrade—it is about enabling community sport to thrive. It will support skill development, wellbeing, team spirit, and a lifelong love of the game. It reflects our commitment to growing the game locally, supporting young people, and being a welcoming space for everyone. With your support, we can ensure our club continues to serve as a valued and inclusive hub for cricket in Dunmow for many years to come.

Community impact

Beyond skill acquisition, this project is about creating long-term habits of activity. Young players who train in a safe, structured, and enjoyable setting are far more likely to remain active as they grow older. Adult players, volunteers, and parents who feel part of a welcoming and well-resourced club
