We are aiming to raise money for a group of students of St Gregory's Catholic to complete Bronze and silver awards
In the heart of Kent, St Gregory's secondary school is home to around 1,100 young people, each with their own talents, ambitions and challenges. Every day, we work to give our students opportunities that help them grow not just academically, but personally – building confidence, resilience and a sense of responsibility for the world around them.
One of the most powerful opportunities we offer is the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. For many of our students, this programme is life-changing. It encourages them to step outside their comfort zones, volunteer in their communities, develop new skills and take on the challenge of an expedition alongside their peers. The Award helps young people believe in themselves, work as a team and discover just how much they are capable of achieving.
Each year, students from a wide range of backgrounds take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at our school. We are proud that it is open to all, regardless of circumstance, because we believe experiences like this should never be limited by financial barriers.
However, rising costs are making this increasingly difficult. Expenses such as equipment, training, transport, campsite fees and accreditation have increased significantly. As a result, some families are finding it harder to afford participation, and without additional support, students may miss out on this valuable experience.
To ensure every student who wants to take part can do so, we are aiming to raise £4,000. This funding will directly support students by helping to cover essential costs and keeping the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award accessible to all. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help remove financial obstacles and give our young people the chance to challenge themselves, build lifelong skills and create lasting memories.
By supporting this fundraising effort, you are investing in our students’ futures. You are helping young people in Kent develop confidence, independence and a sense of achievement that will stay with them long after they leave school. Together, we can make sure the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award remains an opportunity for everyone.
