Aim: Drumaness SuperKings CC wish to use this crowdfunder project to support the growth of the women's section and to start a girls only section.
Club Background
Drumaness Superkings Cricket Club is the sporting hub of the rurally isolated village of Drumaness. With over 60 adult members, 30 young people in our junior youth playing pathway, and a thriving junior academy, we have become one of the largest cricket clubs in the Northern Cricket Union. Our club is focused on providing opportunities for everyone in the village and surrounding areas. We currently have 2 senior men’s teams, a ladies' team, and junior teams at U11 and U13 levels.
We are a fully inclusive club, empowering children, young people, women, and men through cricket at all levels. Opportunities are available for everyone, regardless of age, race, religion, or gender. The values of our club reflect the diverse membership we have.
What is our project?
Drumaness Superkings Cricket Club is raising funds to support the expansion of our women and girls’ coaching and outreach programmes. These funds will help us create a sustainable cricket pathway for women and girls, offering both social and competitive cricket opportunities. We plan to deliver coaching sessions at 6 local schools, providing free cricket training during and after school hours. These sessions will cater to all ability levels and focus on inclusion, ensuring cricket is accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Through this outreach, we aim to increase club membership, grow our junior girls’ programme, and build a strong pipeline of players who can progress to our senior women’s team.
How will the money be spent?
The funds raised will directly contribute to the development of female cricket at Drumaness Superkings. We will purchase Kwik cricket sets, balls, and other necessary equipment for both beginners and more experienced players. We will also invest in safety gear and kits for our female squad, creating a professional and welcoming environment. Additionally, the funds will support our schools outreach programme, enabling coaches to run events at our home ground and facilitate both softball and hardball fixtures. This will enhance the overall quality of our women and girls’ cricket programme.
Who will benefit from this project?
The Club – We will see an increase in membership, more volunteers, and create a more diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environment for the entire community.
The Community – Young people in Drumaness and surrounding areas will gain access to new sporting opportunities, encouraging social interaction, fitness, and fun. This initiative will also contribute to the growing support for women’s sport in Northern Ireland.
The Local Schools – Schools within our catchment area will benefit from high-quality coaching, inspiring girls to engage with cricket and maintain participation in sports outside of school.
Our Female Cricketers – Both existing and new female players will have the chance to try a new sport, meet new people, and stay active in a supportive and enjoyable environment.
With your support, we can create a clear pathway for women and girls in Drumaness to engage with cricket and reach their full potential.
Community Impact and Leveling the Playing Field:
This project will have a significant community impact by breaking down barriers to cricket for young girls in our local area. It aims to provide opportunities for girls from all backgrounds to experience cricket in a welcoming, supportive environment. By running girls-only sessions, we are creating a safe space where participants can gain confidence and skills in a sport that they might not have had the chance to try otherwise. Our initiative will help level the playing field by encouraging girls to see cricket as a viable sport for them, fostering gender equality in an area traditionally dominated by male players. It will also provide a platform for girls to stay active, build friendships, and become part of a vibrant sports community, helping to foster social inclusion and community cohesion
Budget Breakdown:
Coaching Costs:
200 hours x £25 per hour = £5000
This covers the cost of delivering 200 hours of coaching. These sessions will be held across various schools and community venues, aiming to provide quality coaching for girls and women of all ability levels.
Equipment:
Kwik Cricket Sets: 6 sets x £50 per set = £300
These sets will be used for beginner sessions to introduce girls to the basics of cricket.
Hard Balls: 100 White Women's Balls x £25 per ball = £2500
These will be used for more advanced coaching and practice sessions as the girls progress to hard ball cricket.
Hard Ball Sets (Protective Gear): 8 sets x £250 per set = £2000
This will cover the purchase of helmets, gloves, and other protective gear to ensure the safety of players during coaching sessions.
Tennis Balls: 200 x £1 per ball = £200
These will be used for introductory sessions, where tennis balls are more suitable for skill-building in a low-pressure environment.
Total Budget: £10,000
This budget will fully support the coaching, equipment, and safety measures needed to run the project successfully.
Timeframe:
The project is expected to run over 12 weeks. We will begin in January 2026, with the aim of delivering a structured and consistent programme throughout the first quarter of the year. The 12 weeks will allow us to roll out coaching sessions in schools, run community engagement activities, and track the progress of participants. We’ll ensure that the programme is delivered in a way that supports continuous improvement and allows for feedback from participants and stakeholders.
