Aim

An initiative to raise funds for participation in The DrawInternational Arts Residency, Caylus, France as an Artist and Educator.

Hello

Current patrons will already know that I am an Artist and Educator of over 20 years with extensive experience in the teaching of drawing practice, textiles and multi-disciplinary art and design pathways at foundation, undergraduate and adult learning levels. I also facilitate creative workshops and performative events exploring drawing practice. The events take drawing out of the institution and open wider discussions relating to a sense of space, history and identity

The last 18 months of the Covid pandemic created a studio sabbatical reuniting me with my own creative practice in preparation for exhibiting my work again. This year is about resolutely making this happen!

I have been awarded a place for the following Arts Residency and this Crowdfunding proposal would enable me to participate in this exciting project which unites my practice, research in drawing and my new teaching position as an Associate Lecturer in Drawing at Falmouth University.

I have applied for the highly competitive DYCP Arts Council funding for the above project, but private help from old and new patrons would really see this venture come to fruition.

In return for each donation: As follows

For £40.00

Patrons would in exchange for their support receive a small work on paper of their choice. This could be from my current body of work of several hundred pieces or from new work produced after the residency. The patron can liaise with me regarding choice of work.

For £60.00

As above with work framed. A simple frame with accompanying mount.

For £100

A framed small work on paper as above.

PLUS

10% of future residencies or workshops I run or 10% off any private one to one art classes for you or your friends.

A chance to be put in the draw for a large scale A1 Giclee print edition of 1 printed on Hahnemuhle Bamboo 290gsm. "Carn Vae" Original pencil on paper 20cm by 30cm. The normal gallery price unframed £600.00.

Here is the Residency I have been awarded

DRAWInternational creates a space for artists and educators, who want to develop their professional practice, experiment and research. This is a unique organisation as it aims to support artists whose work specialises in drawing practice.

Based in Caylus France, the 6 week residency would provide me with vital exposure to peer artists, mentorship and the production of a new body of work for an exhibition to be held at the end of the Residency.

Funding would cover 6 weeks accommodation, studio space, mentorship, European promotion of ones work, culminating in an exhibition of work produced, travel and materials.

This project would also provide me with the opportunity to connect with the Musee Ingres Bourdelle in Mantalbon France which houses the largest collection of drawings by Ingres including over 5000 finely draughted drawings depicting the rapidly changing appearance of the fashionable woman showing meticulous attention to detail and with rare perception and empathy. It is hoped to gain access to this collection and continue with underlying research into the layers of allegory and materiality embedded into historical and contemporary painting and drawing.

My Arts Practice

www.katebroad.co.uk or @katebroadart

My practice, focused in drawing, investigates the cultural significance of landscape and the documentation of space, both internal and external. Topographical drawing, pattern and the cartoon feature with the Renaissance literary model the Commonplace book in mind. I continue to look for connections between artist, subject matter and location and document the resulting strata as series of multiple conversations.

Independent Arts projects as facilitator and Educator

www.materialimmaterial.co.uk These will resume next year 2023

I facilitate creative workshops and performative events exploring drawing practice.

These events take drawing out of the institution and open wider discussions relating to a sense of space, history and identity. Engaging students and academics across creative genres will generate interesting approaches to cross disciplinary study.
